Complaint Details
The incident happened on the 17th of August, 2016 (Wednesday). After visiting Taj Mahal, I was directed by a guide to a shop named U.P. HANDLOOM COTTAGE CENTRE. There were 3 persons in the shop. They gave a demonstration on how the Taj Mahal looks during different phases of the day. After this they started showing makrana marble show pieces, slippers and sarees. They told me that their shop is the U.P Government shop. They assured me that their products are genuine and they have branches in Mumbai as well as in Kolkata. They claimed the sarees to be made of bamboo and banana leaves. I bought 4 sarees and 2 show pieces and the total bill was Rs. 15400. I made the whole payment by my Indian Bank Debit Card. After returning to Mumbai I felt like visiting the Mumbai branch of the shop. So I googled the name of the shop and found that there are numerous complaints and reviews of scams reported in websites. Then, I called in the mobile number written in the bill and asked for the address of the Mumbai branch of the shop. The shopkeeper said that he cannot tell and will tell later. After this I kept on calling and he kept rejecting my calls. So, I tried calling him from a different number and as expected, he received my call and when I asked about the address of the Mumbai branch, he got irritated and said, "Aree bola na apko nahi malum mujhe" and then he kept the phone. After this I tried calling him several times but he rejected all. I messaged him to which he did not reply. Then, I googled U.P. Handlooms Mumbai and found that there is a shop named UP Handlooms in Colaba in Mumbai and the contact number was also given. I called in that number and asked whether it is the branch of U.P. Handlooms Agra. To this he answered that near Taj Mahal all these shops are cheaters and also the address of their original shop (near Sanjay Palace, Agra) in Agra didn't match with the address of the shop from where I had bought the items. The person told me that the sarees are not made of bamboo or banana leaves; instead they are normal sarees and they are fooling people and making heavy money out of this fooling business. The person requested me to complain against them because they have been fooling people over the years. I have attached the copies of the bills and the payment proof. I want to return all the items and get back my money.
It is my earnest request to you to look seriously into the matter and take necessary steps. Also, I would like to request you to take strict steps so that they don't fool people in future. If you need further information on the incident, please feel free to mail me.
