Hi Sir, Maam

I had recently read in TOI that the service charge being levied by restaurants is optional and customers have the right to reject the same. However I would like to bring to your notice that chains like Pizza hut compulsorily charge 10% service charge on whatever you have. The menu card doesn't mention that the service charge is optional and that customers may not pay so.

The bill also doesn't mention anything about the same being optional. They by default add the service charge to the bill without the consumers consent.

Request to kindly advise whether this practice is legal. If not then is the department planning for any actions against such practices.
