Complaint Details
On 14th Jan 2017, I went into Big Bazaar, Chinchwad to buy an ethnic wear along with Ghee and Jam bottle. So, I ended up buying 3 items from Big Bazaar. As I was checking out Ethnic wear (kurtas), finally found the one I wanted. The MRP read as INR 699/- and I was told that there was a flat 30% off on that kurta.
So, naturally, the INR 699 /- product should cost me INR 490 /- (i.e. INR 209.70 deducted as per the 30% discount)
So I take my stuff to checkout after billing. I get the bill and simply browse through it. To my shock, I find that the INR 699 kurta even after the 30% discount was charged at INR 518.66.
I returned to that cashier and asked him the same and he directed me to the customer care.
There again, I addressed my issue to the customer care personnel and he told that I was being charged VAT @ 6%.
My questions were simple –
1. If I am being charged VAT, why is it not displayed in my bill?
2. As a customer, should I not know why I was charged nearly INR 30/- extra?
3. You say the VAT deduction goes to the Govt. Well, if you haven’t shown VAT deduction in your bill, how would any of that go to the govt.???
4. And why was VAT being charged for that particular Kurta only?!
5. Isn’t VAT charged on the entire bill?
6. If it is not charged under “VAT @ 6%”, it doesn’t go to the govt., does it?
7. Where is this amount going then?
8. Isn’t this fraud?
He asked me to send an email and that he couldn’t do anythn bout it…
So here I am, wasting my time explaining things over and over again.
