Complaint Details
On January 7, 2017, I wished to buy a laptop woth Rs 65,000. Before making the transaction on my American Express gold card for the said amount, I called the American Express customer care to convert the said charge into an EMI.

I was confirmed that the same could be done within 5-7 days, once the vendor claims the amount. I was informed of the applicable interest rate of 1.75% that would be levied in both options i.e. EMI for 12 months or 24 months. I was even informed of my cash-back eligibility of Rs. 5800. This made the offer more lucrative, as I would have saved the cost of one month’s EMI

After having a due confirmation, I swiped the card for the said amount while the customer care executive was on the phone with me. I was then provided a reference number and was re-assured that the charge would be converted to an EMI.

I called the American Express customer care on January 12, 2017 as requested. To my surprise, I was informed that my card is a no-charge card and hence there is no EMI facility on the same.

Now, I am being asked to pay the entire amount in next 15 days. Even after repeated calls and after extending full cooperation, none of the senior executives are willing to extend any help. American Express executive have repeatedly accepted that the fault is at their end and have also apologised but are unable to resolve the issue. I am willing to give written authorisation to American Express to levy the requisite charges but they are not arriving at any amicable solution.

Not only has this caused grave incontinence but now I face the situation where my CIBIL score will be affected because I was misinformed by the staff of American Express. They refuse to extend any cooperation and I am being subject to harassment as they have the liberty to report default to CIBIL that is caused by American Express.
