Complaint Details
After having dinner at a Mainland China restaurant in Mumbai, I was presented with a bill in which a 10% service charge was added by default. I asked the restaurant staff and manager to take the service charge off the bill as I was genuinely not happy with their service. The manager refused to take the charges off citing that the menu displayed that additional service charge would be applied on the prices listed in the menu card provided to us. By ordering from that menu, it was deemed that we consented to the service charge levied on the dinner bill. Despite trying to reason with the restaurant manager for more than 15 minutes, the restaurant did not take the service charge off the bill. The restaurant's defence was that they have not received any circular about the recent clarification given by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. Please clarify and issue an order or direction to the restaurant for a refund of the service charge on the bill.
