Complaint Details
I am having an Airtel DTH connection since 2010. The connection number is 3005905508 001.
The above said connection was recharged for an annual pack with additional add-on recharges such that the balance in my annual pack account as on 31 Oct 2018 07.32 pm was 2345.44. I was subscribed to the Annual pack of Super Star HD Pack Tamil 12 Month. Copy of the last balance from Airtel Website taken in the month of Dec 2018 is enclosed as Encl 01 with per month cost of Rs 201/month. As per that and also as per the Airtel Executive my plan will only expire on 14 Jan 2020. (Please refer above enclosed screen shot)
In Jan 2019, I called up multiple times, Airtel DTH customer care and informed them that I WISH TO AVAIL THE SERVICES WITHOUT ANY CHANGE AND COST AS AVAILED EARLIER TILL 14 JAN 2020, As per clause 17 of the Telecommunication (Broadcasting and cable) Services Standards of Quality of Service and Consumer Protection (Addressable Systems) Regulations, 2017, “In case, the broadcasting services related to television have been availed by a subscriber with a lock-in period or the charges for subscription of broadcasting services related to television are paid in advance for a specific period by a subscriber in pursuance of any scheme offered by the distributor of television channels, the distributor shall continue to provide such services for such period to the subscriber without any increase in the price of subscription and without altering the other terms of subscription to the disadvantage of the subscriber.
Even after multiple request emails as enclosed as (Encl2), the Airtel DTH nodal officer and customer care intentionally and convincingly trying to loot my money and moved me from my original plan of Rs 201/month which was to be provided to me till 14 Jan 2020, to a new plan without verifying or requesting and charging me a whopping 401 (ie 200 rate rise from the original plan without any change in channels) and Nodal officer conveyed that my new plan will expire in 17 Jun 19. This is with reference to your concern regarding new package related for your Airtel DigitalTV ID 3005905508.
On the basis of your email dated 08/03/2019, would like to inform that as per new TRAI guideline We have to cancel the long duration package which was activated on your account and activate the new package.
The price the monthly rental for the new package is calculated as per the channels price and broadcaster bouquet price which were fixed by respective broadcaster, under the new TRAI guideline.
We are regretted for the inconvenience caused to you after the new package got activated.
We also assure you that the amount will be adjusted on your account for not utilized period of your previous recharge.so this is your current account details for both connection

I request your good offices that, Airtel is cheating the common man by quoting as per new TRAI guidelines, they have cancelled long duration package. Which is totally wrong in fact TRAI has conveyed that the DTH provider need to honour all the old committed long duration packages for which payment is already done before Jan 2019.
Hence, I requested that, the service provider Airtel be instructed that my original payment till 14 Jan 2020 be honored with providing uninterrupted service without any extra cost being charged to me and stop looting a genuine longtime customer like me
