Complaint Details
As per Plastic Waste Management Rules 2011, a retailer can charge a customer for carry bag if the same is made of Plastic. However, today on 4th October, 2019, I was charged INR 5 for a Paper Carry Bag which according to the rules cant be chargeable. The retailer has also put a Information Board where it is clearly mentioned that as per Ministry of Environment and Forest they will charge for plastic carry bags. On conveying the same to the person at the billing desk he promptly replied to me that "nowhere it is written that we cant charge for paper bags and henceforth we are charging". My complaint is with regard to the fact that when the government is trying to prohibit the use of 'Single-use Platic', the retailer is demotivating people by charging for paper carry bags. Although, the amount being charged is meagre but when looked from a broader view, we can see how much money they are minting illegally.
Through this complaint, I request the authority to take cognizance of the fact and accordingly take appropiate action.
Thank you.
P.S.: I have attached photos of the information board and also the bill.
