I had purchased the Canon Digital Camera Powershot SX 40H5 with 46B SDHC Card (with carry case)
and the Canon Compact Photo Printer Selphy at Bangalore from the JP Nagar G. K. Vale outlet in 2011. While purchasing it we had mentioned that we wanted something that will be good and exchangeable in terms of technology or be upgradeable even after a few years. We were told that this is one of the best cameras in terms of technology and performance and the clarity is such that one can photograph the moon along with the visible craters. We were assured about the technology and performance and were told that this is the best model to buy.
Upon seeing an exchange offer in the newspaper my sons went to the outlet and got the worst response from the outlet personnel. They were told that the camera is not in the market and should be thrown on the streets as it is valueless. They also told us that we should go for a Nikon instead and not Canon since this is a brand and model that is to be on the streets. They spoke to the outlet personnel and told them that this is not what we were told when we purchased it and we were told about the technologically advanced features. To this the personnel started arguing and said that we could complain wherever we want and that nothing can be done. I spoke to few VIPs’ about this immediately and when they tried calling from the Ministry the owner did not respond to our calls.
After a day or two the Owner Mr. Sukumar called.
(Managing Partner of G. K. Vale and Company)communicated about the purchase of a new camera with absolutely no mention of the exchange price being given for the old one. The one that we had purchased is still in Warranty and have hardly used it and should be fetching atleast 90% of the price we bought it for. We would like to purchase a new Canon camera only once he confirms the total amount for which the old will be exchanged.
Please note that any equipment has a reasonable exchange rate and I am quite surprised that this was not discussed by Mr. Sukumar and was completely overlooked by him while corresponding with us. I am keen to know how these exchange offers are being rolled out to the General public who may not have the voice nor the knowledge to evaluate these things.
Upon raising these questions Mr. Sukumar spoke to me for an offer wwith a measerly 19% discount being given to the purchase of a DSL Camera with absolutely no mention of what the existing camera can be fetched. Totally dissatisfied and unhappy with the wrong information and expectations that his Chain of stores promises and then goes back on after a customer purchases the product. I have found no solution and no redress to this and no response from owner who is talking of a new price for a new camera and no mention of a good decent exchange offer for the old. All communication with him has not yielded any results.
