WARRANTY REPAIR

4) Complaint Details : Product was being used by my son at IIT Madras. Due to humid weather the product stopped working. It was shown at Madras service center. They refused to repair stating water damage.
The product was then given to your Pimpri service center. Again with remark of water damage they agreed to repair the TAB. (Service Center 0003272290 Bill No. 4165722087 dt 23/12/2013. Now the repair cost about Rs. 11600/- is being asked.

The product is under warranty. The usage was by IITian at Madras. The reason for water going in to the TAB is not known. Due to humid weather of Madras (Chennai) product might have developed some problem.

I want you to consider this as free warranty repair and advise your service center accordingly.

Technical aspects:

1. Product was being used with additional protective flap cover purchased from Samsung for additional 1000/- rupees.

2. There is no opening for water to enter except the charging socket.

3. Hence water should not have entered the product by its design itself

4. Even if water enters it should have damaged the charging pins only because of corrosion

5. The motherboard is expected to have undergone varnishing i.e. protective water proofing coating as per electronics equipment standards

6. It is stated that due to water logging inside the product the Motherboard and some components such as camera etc got damaged and they have replaced these items with estimated repair cost of Rs. 11600/-

7. The rule of repair / replace states that if the repair cost more than 2/3rd of the product cost it should be replaced than repaired. The product is purchased for 15000/- on 05/05/2013 and during its warranty repair the cost is more than 10000/- in this case Samsung should have replaced the product than go for repair.

8. Considering the above technical aspects the damage is because of poor design of product by Samsung.

Unless and until there is proper written response from Samsung I will not collect the repaired product from your service center.

Besides I am submitting the complaint with Consumer Redressal Forum of Maharashtra.
