Dear Sir,

I made purchases in Bangalore Central on 04 January.

They were providing discounts on certain merchandise.

But the practice they had been following was quite strange. After the discount they are adding VAT on the product. The MRP of any product contains VAT. So they are essentially charging me twice for the VAT.

For example The MRP of a product is Rs 100. This price is inclusive of VAT. So if they are giving a discount of 30% the actual price should be Rs 70, however they are adding another 5.5% on Rs 70 and hence the final price becomes Rs 73.85. So actually they are giving a discount of 26.15% instead of 30%.

Whatever discount they decide to give is at their discretion, but they can not charge me VAT twice. If they want to sell the product at Rs 73.85 they can change the discount to 26.15%.

I tried to speak to the store manager however he dodged the question saying management decision and said he can not help me.

I request you to kindly help me and also prevent these large organisations from indulging in these kind of mal practices and cheat customers.
