Complaint Details
I request you to take up the following case of Violation of Consumer Rights by Indian Railways, which affects almost every passenger of Indian Railway traveling with a reserved ticket:
In the E-ticket FROM station, TO station and BOARDING POINT are mentioned. Full fare from the FROM station to the TO station is collected at the time of booking the ticket. The Boarding point is generally the FROM station but can also be any other station between the FROM and the TO station, as opted by the passenger while booking the ticket ( or later).
If the passenger actually boards the train before the Boarding point ( which may be the FROM station or a station after FROM station) he is treated as ticketless traveler till the Boarding point, even though he has paid the full fare from the FROM station to the TO station. In such a case, to avoid penalty , the passenger has to purchase another ticket from his actual boarding point to the boarding point mentioned in the E-ticket and travel in general compartment. Because full fare is collected from the FROM station to the TO station, it is suggested the Indian Railways should permit the passenger to board the train any where between the FROM station and the Boarding Point. No additional fare ( or fine) should be collected from the passenger because he has already paid full fare for the entire distance.
3.The above information ( that the passenger should board the train only at the Boarding point) is not mentioned in the E-ticket or the Website of Indian Railways. So the passengers will never come to know the above rulefollowed by Indian Railways. This is giving undue advantage to the TTEs to fine the passengers who have a valid fully paid ticket but board the train before the Boarding point due compelling reasons.
Because full fare is collected by Railways from the FROM station to the TO station, it is suggested that the passenger be permitted to board the train at any Station between the FROM station and the Boarding Point. No additional ticket /fare should be collected from the passenger because he has already paid full fare for the entire distance.
With Regards
B Shrikar.
