Complaint Details
I purchased a Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB stick from Vodafone Customer Care Center at 204, Sarat Bose Road, Kolkata – 29 on March 7th, 2013. It got activated after about 5 days. From the start, the USB stick was not working on my tablet, while at the time of selling the stick I was not informed that this would be the case. I had bought this mobile USB connection to use it for my tablet, as I already had other data card connections which I used on other devices. When I brought this to the notice of the Vodafone salespeople at the Customer Care center, they were unsure about what the problem was and could tell me only after repeated attempts to make the connection work that the stick would not be supported by a tablet. I immediately pointed out that this was not written anywhere in the product literature nor had I been informed by the salespeople at the time of selling. Following this, I tried using the donggle on my laptop and faced extremely dissatisfactory service, with very unstable connectivity. I reported this to Vodafone once again, and they sent a service engineer who could not improve the service in any way. After repeated complaints and no results, I disconnected the mobile connection for the data card, whose connection no was 9836128600. I sent the disconnection request on May 8th and got a confirmation on May 10th. Then I visited the Customer Care Center and requested them to refund the amount I had paid for the donggle (Rs 1000) as the service was extremely unsatisfactory and I had disconnected service because of this. I was informed that there would be no refund of the donggle amount. After that I started getting repeated mails, letters and phone calls that asked me to pay an outstanding amount that was far in excess of the period of usage. Please note, that till date I have not received a service bill copy from Vodafone. Ever since I put in the disconnection request, I have been sent outstanding due reminders, but no official bill for this number. I conveyed in my mail dated June 20th (copy attached) that I would only pay for actual usage charges and not for any late payment charges that they have levied. I have also mentioned that I will only pay after they have refunded the amount I paid for the USB mobile connection stick.
Today, I got a call from Vodafone again with the executive using very abusive language for not paying up. I will be making a police complaint against this. I am attaching copy of my email communication to Vodafone. I want to take legal action against Vodafone for the fraudulent claims made by them and inadequate knowledge about the products they sell, and the ensuing harassment. They need to be taught a lesson for using strong-armed tactics with customers even when they are entirely at fault. This sort of bullying has to stop.
