Complaint Details
I had purchased a sony bravia TV - 2 and a half years back (July 2013). Its model number is KDL-42W650A IN5 and its price was 63K then (serial no.4315572) .
Problem first started in Nov'13, when the TV was under warranty. A broad white vertical stripe appeared in the centre of screen. It went away once the TV was restarted. complaint was registered at the same day. An engineer who visited the next day saw the TV was working fine, gave us some silly reasons and asked us not to worry. He asked us to restart the TV whenever that happens. The problem used to reccur but every time went away on restarting( as suggested by Sony Engineer).
Now the problem has recurred and this time with a permanent effect. Few days back the same stripe appeared and is not going away. I called the customer care on 23rd April 2016, an engineer visited, and shockingly for us, the bad news is, display panel has to be replaced and the cost would be around INR 23000. The engineer also said, we should have got the TV replaced free of cost when this problem had first occurred and should have stopped using the TV then and there. So the problem had started in warranty period, when Sony should have replaced the TV, but cheated me and with time the problem agravated causing permanent damage.
Moreover, while doing some online research, I found that it is a common manufacturing issue in Sony LCD and LED TVs. And Sony India should take complete responsibility. A video in youtube clearly shows the manufacturing defect in detail. Also a lot of consumers have complained about similar problems in the past.
When I tried to fetch my previous complaints' details, I found that the details have been wrongly entered, where the display issue has been mentioned as Sound issue. Also some of the other details have been hidden by Sony team.
Sony India should replace the display panel free of f cost as it is completely their fault both in terms of manufacturing defect and post sale service.
